DermaRadar processes data directly from CMS Transparency in Coverage files — a federal mandate requiring all major insurers to publish their negotiated rates. These files are technically public, but each one can be hundreds of gigabytes. We ingest, parse, and index them so you don't have to. We also monitor payer file updates on a regular basis and refresh our data as new versions are published, so your benchmarks reflect the most current rates available.

The benchmarks come directly from payer-published rate files — these are the actual negotiated rates insurers are required to disclose, not estimates, surveys, or self-reported figures.

We use your NPI to identify the specific CPT codes your practice bills, then find every other dermatologist in the payer's file who bills those same codes under the same insurer. Your benchmark is built from that peer group — actual practices, actual procedures, actual rates.

During the founding period, coverage is still expanding as we complete national data ingestion. Some payer and geography combinations may not yet be fully indexed.
